Cove Fort

Cool rock formations on the way to the fort.  Not sure what formation they are, I'm sure Cabe does though!

Cove Fort is located immediately northeast of the junction of I-15 and I-70, in the southeast corner of Millard County, twenty miles south of Kanosh and twenty-four miles north of Beaver. (Click here for a detailed map of Utah.)

The fort was built to offer protection and refreshment to the traveler. Beginning in 1847, pioneers began settling the high mountain valleys stretching from Idaho to California. They came here to worship in peace and to build homes and communities. The fort is made of lava rock, which workers hauled from west of the property. The fort is 100 square feet, 18.5 feet tall, 4 feet thick at the footings and 2.5 feet thick at the top.
In 1867, the prophet Brigham Young called Ira Hinckley and his family to come and direct the building and operations of the fort.
Cove Fort has been restored to bring the past a little bit more to life. This is the only fort built by the Latter-day Saints in the 1800's that still stands.

I wish I could remember all the details.  There was something special about the tree on the right.  I do remember it has lived much longer then that type usually does.

Game playing. 

Cove Fort was interesting and beautiful.  It was a little rainy which cooled it off.  Loved it.  Their garden has me a bit envious though.  It was amazing.

Fremont Indian State Park

We spotted this one on the way into the park.

They have a pretty great children's section.  It was nice because I was able to wander and read the information, which I love to do, but am usually chasing children. 

Apparently this guy provided tons of entertainment for the kids and adults.  I just missed him. 

Gotta love teenagers.  Haha. 

This is such a Miss L face.  She never wants anyone to see her smile and goes to great lengths to hide it. Sometimes, however, it starts to creep out and she can't control it. 

Not sure what this face was but it cracked me up.  She too is pretty funny and together she and her hubs are so fun to be around. 

 Cabe and Lucas (our brother-in-law) have a strange relationship.  I have a ton of pics of this guy that Cabe took.  I would post them, but I need permission.  Haha.  He's a nut.  I don't think he'd mind them posted, but his cute wifey might.  I'll share this beauty with you though.  Gotta love the farmer's tan.

These two are so silly I almost peed my pants laughing at them.  Cutest. Couple. Ever.

It was hot.  It made us all sleepy.  She only lasted minutes. 

Visiting Grandma

My Grandma has had a rough couple of months.  She was finishing up some rehabilitation when we were there and we were happy to get out to see her.  She is my #1 Facebook supporter and a huge reason why I've haven't checked out of that whole thing.  I get frustrated with Facebook sometimes, but the idea of not having daily communication with her and a few other family members really freaks me out.   

We love you, Grandma.  Heal up so you can come see us in Louisiana!

Visiting Grandpa's Grave

 

My grandpa passed away in December.  We couldn't afford to fly everyone home so these little people missed his funeral.  It was Mr. M. who asked to go see his gravesite.  He is such a tender-heart.  It took us a bit to find it, since he doesn't have a headstone yet, but we did.  It was weird to be in Utah with no chance of seeing him.  We miss you, Grandpa!

Lava Flows and Stuff

There's a lot of game players at Grandma and Grandpa's house.  The kids love it!  Miss L didn't talk to anyone but she'd crawl up in their lap and play games and hold their hands when walking.  She communicates, she just won't speak.  Damon just loves that he gets unlimited cuddles and games. 

I don't remember what my nephew was doing, but I know he's was being a goofball. 

Mammoth Cave

I loved Mammoth Cave.  It was nice to escape the heat.  I wish I had pics of how we looked at the end.  We were pretty muddy.  The kids and I turned back at the very end because it looked to difficult for the last few feet.  Those who continued on were out in seconds and not that dirty.  We turned back and with the dark and slipper conditions that took much longer, we were a mess!  It was fun though.
