We had plans and hopes to transfer. Not because we don't love it here, but because we want to be near our parents, or at least nearer.
I remember being so disappointed when we first heard we weren't being transferred. I'd thought we'd be moving in late summer, right before school started. I would be hugely pregnant (with Q) but at least I wouldn't have a newborn. It didn't happen. We found out we were staying and planned to apply for the next set of moves. I figured we'd be moving in December, when the baby was just a few months old. That didn't happen either. We were given no definite time of having a job, but we weren't moving. Somewhere along the way I released my wants and hopes and just tried to go with the flow.
Last summer we went home to visit. It was awesome. I miss home. It's in my bones. Now matter how much I love another place, home will always be home to me. Caleb's sister and her family, who'd also been living near the South, had moved back home. They are there together, having family dinners and watching cousins' play. We drove through the mountains with the crisp cool air, discussing what we were both feeling. We both felt strongly we'd be coming home soon too and wanted that for our kids and us. We figured that meant we wouldn't survive the next set of lay-offs....but we did.
Caleb applied to several positions and places within his company. None of them being the place he got a position for.
I don't want to go into details publicly but things are going to be kind of crazy for awhile. It's been hard for my head to adjust. And yet, he has a job. We have an income. That is a huge blessing.
We have no idea what the big plan is. We still feel we will go back West, that was a true feeling, but not yet. We are certain doors are being opened in the future. We just have to hold on and try to enjoy the ride.
Life is full of surprises and love and people and greatness. It can take concentration to focus on the positive and the good in life, but it's worth it. We can choose to be happy. On my hard days I'm coming back to read that sentence. Haha.
