Family Photos 2012

Last week we had a photo party at Lake Martin.
Miss L was not co-operative.at.all.
This was the only one we got with everyone looking.
So...it's the winner!

We got to watch the sun go down.
It was gorgeous.
Good friends, good fun, and a nice, cool evening.
We don't get those all that often.

If only I had shifted a little, this sillouette pic would have been awesome.

Hugs from brother to brother.

Santa and the Bass Pro Shop

My friend Molly and I took the kids to Bass Pro Shop outside of Baton Rouge.
It was AMAZING.
This was my first time.
I was impressed by everything.
Maybe it's hard to see but I loved the swamp decor up to the ceiling.

The Santa pics were fun.  Haha.  You know how much Miss L loves people.  The boys sat on Santa's lap and I crouched by holding Miss L as she buried her head away.  It was not the best photo to say the least.
That is the major reason we do not get professional pics done.  My two littles DO NOT smile for other people.  Mr. M does great and loves Santa.  He was able to ride the carousel with him and loved it.  I was frustrated because it's a very small chance they get to ride with Santa - he rides it once a day - and my camera was across the store with my friend!  If you know me, you know that drove me nuts.  Hehe.

I love the friendliness of the workers there.  They make it a great experience and I'm glad we beat the Christmas rush.

Mia and Life and Heartache and Joy

Even still, I can't quit thinking about Miss Mia.  Today in sacrament meeting I almost broke into sobs again.  Reading her mommy's blog is one of the hardest things I have ever done and yet I have to read it.  I need to read it.  This little girl is not mine.  I only had the privilege of meeting her in person a few times.  I have no idea how I can feel so connected to someone else's child. I've known her mommy for a long time (over 20 years). Her mom has blogged about everything from her birth, to the wait for a heart, to the transplant, to the sadness of the mom of the little boy who saved Mia's life, her feeding tube and teaching her to eat, her learning to crawl, her bedtime routines, her sweet, sweet moments.  I've cheered with them with every step she's made.

When I met Mia I was sucked in immediately.  She was so sweet.  I just wanted to squeeze her and then run off and take her home.  I really wanted to keep her. I'm not exaggerating when I say she was the sweetest little girl I've ever met.  And she was so blessed.  She has fantastic parents.  Their marriage is awesome, their parenting is awesome, their love of life is awesome, her siblings are awesome, her extended family is awesome.

Any death of a child is heartbreaking.  Knowing a child who dies is even more heartbreaking.  Knowing THIS particular child, this Little Mia, is heart wrenching.  When I see her photos I want to reach in and pull her out and give her back to her family.  I still can't believe she's gone from this world. I will no longer read stories about her day to day life.  I will no longer get to hug her and hold her and watch her play when I go home for the summer. I get nauseous when I think about it.  In fact, last month I was certain I was pregnant because I was nauseous so much.  I was not.  I was just that sad...and still am.

I'm not as consumed as I was.  I do have to go back to my own life.  I get that.  I am trying.  I just had to vent that.  Here on my blog.  My venting ground. If only venting would bring her back.

To prove I can still love my life, I'll post about just that...my life.

Nap time and bedtime are not fun with this guy right now.  I don't want to go into it.  It took me a bit to find him on this night, tucked into a corner, covered in pillows.  At least he was asleep.
The other day Mr. M asked if I could do headstands.  I told him when I was a little girl I loved them but adults can't really do them.  I based this off the fact that I tried a few years ago and about broke my neck and was dizzy and sick to my stomach.  It was awful.  Then I remembered, I am 90 lbs. lighter!  I tried it.  I enjoyed it!  Later I went outside and had cartwheel races and somersault races with the kids.  We played tag.  We went wild.  It was a blast.  I am so thankful for my health.

I'm even more grateful for those little people.  They're so stinkin' cute!

Lake Fausse Point State Park

We are huge fans of state parks.
We are huge fans of being outdoors.
We love Louisiana.
The parks here are gorgeous.  My camera and I cannot do them justice.  It drives me crazy.
Sun a lil' bright, Lil' Guy?

I often feel like I live on a movie set.  I love the vines and huge trees.  I never thought I'd live in the South.  I love discovering it.

The kids were ecstatic about the park!
I love how comtemplative he seems here.  He's a sweet kid.
Hikin' away. Miss Lib did not wear practical shoes.  Neither did mom.  She takes after me, I guess.

Lil' Guy hasn't liked napping or going to bed at night lately.
He zonked out.
If only he'd do that at home.

I was reading "The Help" on this drive.  Seeing this Oak and Pine Alley fit right into the book.

Blogger is Saying it Again

Grr...again I am out of space on here for pictures.  I toy with the idea of doing something different all the time.  Even just doing online scrap booking, but I don't know exactly how all the works and how to make sure our family can see it.  The only way they get to watch my kiddos grow up is through this blog.   I could start my own page somehow, except I have no idea how, and are those easy to make into blog books?  Any ideas anyone?

While I wait to hopefully hear some input from all of you, I do have some things I'd love to jabber about.

Do any of you have memories that randomly sneak up on you? Say late at night when you are trying to sleep or even just randomly any time of day? Moments that either make you sigh loudly or keep you up at night?  I have a few things that just drive me crazy even to this day.  I'm wondering if an unloading of them will make it better.   We'll see!

In sharing these, I kind of lay my heart out on the line a little bit.  Especially with the last two. I'm not looking for pity or digging for compliments.  I'm just sharing some things that have shaped me.  These memories are still helping to rub my rough edges off.

The first of these that comes to mind most often is my student teaching.  I student taught with a lady who I'm pretty sure hated my guts.  I would go into the whole story but it's long and annoying.  Let's just say I think back about that time and it gets my wheels turning in so many directions.  I had student taught with at least a half dozen teachers and had always had a great time. It was one of the first times I realized that some people will just not like me, no matter how hard I try, and that's OK.  But I re-run parts of it over and over in my mind.  I don't feel guilt anymore because I did seek her out and apologize for my part in the whole fiasco, but man, that was a tough time and memories of it still haunt me.  Luckily some huge blessings came from my choice to leave that student teaching position, but I'll save that for another day.

I also re-play my evaluations from my mentor teacher from my first year of teaching.  My principal loved me.  He was so sad when we moved.  My mentor, however, wasn't quite as impressed. It was her job to help me improve. I get it.  But those negative things still get to me.  Why?  I'm not sure.  Maybe because I invested so much into my teaching.  I so badly wanted to do a good job.  I wanted to do right by those kids, but they were tough.  I had one seventh period class (mostly seniors) that nearly put me in my grave.  I had another class that even my mentor said, "If you told them to go outside and stand on their heads in the snow, they'd do it for you.  They love you."  I know she didn't think I was a horrible teacher or anything, she had plenty of positive to say, but the dang negative stuff is what comes back the most.

There are quite a few more but I'll just share one more...well a two-in-one.

I've received two e-mails in my life that were difficult to receive.  The first one was a friend who was extremely upset at something she perceived I had done.  My memory of it, as well as Caleb's memory of it, was vastly different than hers.  But either way she was upset.  She sent me a huge e-mail letting me know all the things she disliked about me.  Apparently her frustration had built up for quite some time.  It was hard to swallow.  Not because it was all untrue.  It wasn't.  Some of it was true.  It's just that I accept my friends with all their flaws and I expect the same from them.  We all know our flaws.  It's hard to see them all laid out in the open like that.  As hard as it was, I think it did help me.  It helped me look inward and some inner reflection is good for all of us.

The other one was an e-mail where another friend told me how she had to distance herself from me.    I hated (hate) that I was a person someone felt they needed to distance themselves from.  I've had a very few amount of people in my life that I've had to distance myself from, and the reasons I've had to were pretty huge, so to be THAT person was (is) hard.  Again though, not everyone has to, or even will, like me, but wouldn't it be nice if everyone did!

There you have it.  My Memories.  Laid out there for my one or two blog followers to glance at, or even possibly read.  I think I may be crazy for sharing, but I've never claimed not to be crazy so I'll go with it.

The Post of 1 Million Pics...

or close to it.

Lil' Guy was having a rough evening.
I figured some fun in the sun was a perfect pick-me-up.

His lil' expression cracks me up.

Miss L wanted a chance to take pics.
I'm so glad I let her.
She saved some precious memories for me.
Toby is at my feet every minute of every day.
Now I'll remember that forever too.

I bet we spend 20 hrs a week playing chase around here.
It's the best way to get huge giggles and squeals.

I love that she caught the Tobster in action!
Mr. D talks very seriously to me all throughout the day.
I can't understand 90 percent of what he says.
I try.  I really do.
Look how serious his little face is.
When he can't get through to me out-loud he tries to whisper in my ear.
 That never works either.
Usually after that, a fit ensues...from one of us or the other.
Gangnum Style is huge around here these days.
We spend hours dancing around the house being goofballs
Mormon Daddy Style is another favorite.
Two-year-old dancing is the best.thing.ever.
I love when he reaches for my face.

That grin!  I could eat him!

These last two pics are two of my favorite pictures.  I  LOVE THEM!  Thanks Miss L!
